Hilton Kota Kinabalu is Making a Difference with the Launch of its Soap-Recycling Program

Hilton Kota Kinabalu have teamed up with the Starfish Malaysia Foundation and ECOLAB for the launch of its soap-recycling program, Making a Difference. The eco-friendly program aims to aid and empower marginalised youths in Sabah. 



“We are delighted to be launching this program in line with our goals to double the investment on social impact and to reduce our carbon footprint by half in the year 2030,” said Linda Pecoraro, General Manager of Hilton Kota Kinabalu.

In support of the local community, more than 30 team members of Hilton Kota Kinabalu handcrafted the soaps step-by-step at the launch of ‘Making a Difference’ program. The event was graced by Windson Chuah, Distributor Sales Manager, SEA as well as Azymie Yusof, Territory Manager of ECOLAB and Program Coordinators, Terrence and Deborah Ooi from the Starfish Malaysia Foundation. A total of 468 recycled soap bars were made by following the stringent process of sanitizing and cleaning, grinding, melting, moulding and packaging. 

Hilton Kota Kinabalu will be continuously contributing to Starfish Malaysia Foundation with approximately 350 recycled soap bars a month. The soaps are to be donated to marginalised youths living in hostels provided by the Starfish Foundation for them to attend schools. The children come from poor families in the rural areas of Sabah, Borneo where local schools are not available.



Every year, a typical 400-room hotel generates 3.5 tons of solid soap waste, and these hotel soap slivers can be salvaged and turned into new soap bars. The program focuses on three core objectives – saving lives by providing access to soap to communities who need soap but have no access; to provide livelihood to the local community through recycling and reprocessing soap to help hotels reduce waste by turning used soap into something useful again. 

More than 7 million children die each year from diseases such as pneumonia that can be prevented with simple and proper sanitation. Handwashing with soap is the most effective and cost efficient way, but does not come easily to the underprivileged in Sabah, Borneo. As a leading hospitality company in the world, Hilton intends to do their part by giving back to society and saving the earth.

From a scenic drive with views of paddy fields, kampung houses, and little towns; to spotting Proboscis monkeys (known for their large noses and round bellies) in the distance; followed by a beautiful sunset at the mangrove forest; and capped off with catching fireflies on a pitch dark night, this is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts to get up close and personal with nature.

With at least 30 ethnic groups in Sabah alone – each with its own unique culture, tradition, and dialect – The Mari Mari Cultural Village doubles as a museum preserving as well as educating visitors on Borneo's ethnic culture. Mari Mari (meaning "come come", a local lingo indicating a warm welcome) showcases the various traditional homes of the island's indigenous communities (Bajau, Lundayeh, Murut, Rungus and Dusun) as well as their different ways of living, accompanied by nibbles and bites from each indigenous tribe. The tour ends with dance performances by the locals, which culminates to an interactive one where visitors are invited to join in, before heading back into town.

If your trip happens to be on a weekend, wake up early and stroll along Gaya Street, the city’s main road, for the Sunday Market. For one day a week, stalls sell all sorts of interesting knick-knacks such as handcrafted wares, clothes, antiques, and snacks. Bargaining is a must, as is the purchase of Kuih Cincin (literally translates to ‘ring cakes’, a sweet and crispy local biscuit, shaped like honeycomb cells).

Fans of the king of fruits are in for a treat this season, as Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu's team once again bending the rules a bit on its No Durian Policy by having "Durians" in the hotel only for this month of September & October at its Promenade Café, Dynasty Restaurant and Deli Corner.

Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu launches a new food experience at Azure Pool Bar & Café with a delicious Asean street food concept.





According to General Manager Kanit Sangmookda, this was inspired by the name of the venue itself, “Azure”, which sounded similar to Asia. “Asia are known for their street food – Bangkok, Taiwan, South Korea and even in Malaysia. We want to share this not only with our hotel guests but to our local community as well, that they can now enjoy their favourite snacks right here at Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu”, he added.

Sabah’s First FootGolf Course!

The first FootGolf course in Sabah is now available at Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club (SHGCC).  Football and golf enthusiasts better be ready for the newest sport in town. 



According to SHGCC’s general manager, Rick Blackie, FootGolf is a combination of football and golf. The courses were open last Oct 6th 2020.  

Players are required to kick a football from teeing area to a hole instead of using clubs and golf balls. The distances for each hole are shorter than for golf holes but the course makeup is still designed around holes with a Par of 3, 4, or 5. "

"You only need to wear proper footwear (no studs or cleats), smart sports attire and have a size five football, which can be rented from the club or you can bring your own,” he said.

Rick stated that the game acquires skills and knowledge to manoeuvre the football through the terrain found on the golf course. 

Because it is a precision sport based around the rules of golf and scored similarly, it is not necessary for you to have the most powerful kick, it is more about method and accuracy, with the person taking the least number of kicks being the winner."

We are currently offering a 9-hole course but if it proves popular we can expand to an 18-hole layout later on.”



FootGolf is not a new sport. It is apparently a fast growing sport in the United States, United Kingdom, South America, Europe, Australia and including Southeast Asia. 

FootGolf Malaysia is the governing body for the sport in Malaysia and also a member of the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG).

Kmia dan hubby memang nda pernah pun celebrate birthday tapi kan disebabkan ramai kawan-kawan Kmia yang sangat caring .. cewah! Ada jugalah dapat seperais birthday gitu. KEMPEN PENYAYANG KOMUNITI AYAM BRAND 2019

Ayam Brand membawa mesej nutrisi seimbang ke Negeri Sabah untuk menangani masalah obesiti dalam kalangan kanak-kanak. Menyokong Empat Buah Rumah Kebajikan Kanak-Kanak dengan 48,240 hidangan sihat.



Adakah hidangan terakhir anda ialah sepinggan 3S makanan Malaysia yang sihat? 3S adalah singkatan kepada Suku-Suku Separuh. Suku-Suku Separuh menggalakkan pembahagian makanan di atas pinggan melibatkan suku protein, suku karbohidrat kompleks serta separuh buah-buahan dan sayur-sayuran. 

Pinggan sihat 3S Malaysia mungkin kedengaran asing bagi kebanyakan daripada kita, lantas menjadi punca kepada epidemik  obesiti dalam kalangan golongan dewasa serta kanak-kanak. Menurut Laporan Menangani Obesiti di ASEAN oleh Unit Risikan Ekonomi, kadar obesiti di Malaysia adalah 13.3% iaitu tertinggi dalam Asia Tenggara. Malaysia juga merupakan antara tiga negara peneraju di Asia yang mempunyai peratusan tinggi, iaitu 11.5% kanak-kanak obes berusia enam bulan hingga 12 tahun.


Ayam Brand, jenama tempatan yang terkenal dengan rangkaian makanan dalam tin berkualiti tinggi, tanpa bahan pengawet, tiada MSG tambahan, sihat dan mudah. Jenama ini berusaha untuk menangani isu besar iaitu masalah obesiti dalam kalangan kanak-kanak di Malaysia dengan memperkenalkan konsep Pinggan Sihat 3S Malaysia ke dalam program Tanggungjawab Korporat Sosial (CSR) yang akan dijalankan. Tahun ini, Ayam Brand berjaya mengembangkan program CSR kepada murid-murid sekolah rendah.

Tema kempen pada tahun ini ialah 'Ayam Brand Community Care Campaign 2019, Get Healthy Malaysia, Start Now'. Kempen ini bertujuan untuk memperkasakan kanak-kanak dari 10 buah negeri dengan maklumat untuk mengenal pasti pilihan makanan yang sihat dan melengkapkan mereka dengan kemahiran dalam menyediakan hidangan Pinggan Sihat 3S Malaysia. Program ini terbuka kepada kanak-kanak berusia lapan tahun dan ke atas.



Di Sabah, seramai 20 orang kanak-kanak dari Persatuan Rumah Amal Sabah, Seri Mengasih Centre, Rumah Kanak-Kanak Beringgis, Rumah Amal Kasih Kingfisher, SJK (C) Chung Hwa Likas telah mengambil bahagian dalam kempen 'Ayam Brand Community Care Campaign 2019, Get Healthy Malaysia, Start Now' yang mencabar dan menyeronokan ini.

Acara ini dimulakan dengan pengenalan interaktif mengenai konsep #sukusukuseparuh. Diikuti oleh pembahagian kepada lima pasukan yang terdiri daripada empat orang kanak-kanak untuk menyediakan hidangan berdasarkan prinsip 3S.






Mereka perlu menyiapkan hidangan dalam masa 30 minit dengan bantuan daripada orang dewasa dan menggunakan resepi yang disarankan oleh pakar.







Sementara menunggu hidangan Pinggan Sihat 3S Malaysia dinilai, kanak-kanak itu kemudian dicabar dengan permainan yang memerlukan Kemahiran Berfikir Aras Tinggi untuk mengingat apa yang telah dipelajari tentang nutrisi yang baik.

Menurut Pengurus Borneo Ayam Brand, Tan Yann Yu, kempen yang kini sudah memasuki tahun ke-12 telah menyumbang 1.76 juta hidangan sihat bagi tujuan kebajikan, menyediakan makanan berkhasiat kepada lebih 20,000 orang dari 482 buah rumah kebajikan dan NGO.

Disamping tip-tip yang dapat peserta manfaatkan di rumah, mereka juga dapat berkongsi pengetahuan dengan rakan-rakan dan ahli keluarga, "katanya lagi.

" Hari ini saya belajar bahawa saya perlu makan lebih banyak sayur, buah-buahan dan protein. Selain perlu mengurangkan pengambilan nasi dan roti yang saya sangat gemari. Makanan yang saya buat hari ini cukup sedap dan sihat. Saya akan cuba untuk makan hidangan yang seimbang setiap hari untuk jadi lebih sihat dan akan lebih banyak bersenam, "kata salah seorang peserta. 

Ayam Brand membawakan kempen ini secara dalam talian dan menghebahkannya menerusi media sosial dengan pengaktifan peraduan Show Us Your Healthy Plate, selain berkongsi kemas kini program secara langsung.

Potatoes USA presents An Evening With Chef Emmanuel Stroobant and U.S. Potatoes, an exclusive cooking demo session by the celebrity 2-Star Michelin chef at The Pavilion, Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort.

Invited guests had an enjoyable session watching the chef in action and trying out his scrumptious US Potatoes dishes. Also present was Indra Balaratnam, Consultant Dietitian and Founder & Owner of Indra Balaratnam Nutrition who gave a talk on the nutritional benefits of US Potatoes.

Hailing from Belgium, Chef Emmanuel Stroobant’s career began at a tender age of 16 with the cleaning of dishes in one of his country’s best restaurants. At 23, he opened his first restaurant in his hometown, Liege. 

After travelling the world, he made a life-changing decision by heading to Asia. His maiden stop was to Kuala Lumpur in late 1997 and was awarded the ‘1999 Best Expatriate Chef’ by World Asia Media. In that same year Stroobant and his wife Edina moved to Singapore to yet again experience another unchartered episode. Their first restaurant, Saint Pierre became the only Singapore member of the world-renowned Relais & Châteaux, the prestigious association of the world’s finest hotels and restaurants; and has been awarded 1 Michelin star by the second edition of Michelin Guide Singapore in 2017.

Indra Balaratnam is a consultant dietitian who has 22 years of experience in the field of nutrition and dietetics. She runs her own private practice, where she helps her clients to eat healthier. Indra holds professional memberships in the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association, where she is a Past President (Year 2011/2012); member of the American Overseas Dietetics Association (AODA) affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics of the US. 

Indra shared with us the fact that potatoes are actually very nutritious.  Potatoes are naturally fat free, cholesterol free, and low in sodium. In addition, potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C, and those eaten with the skin are a good source of potassium.  Foods that are good sources of potassium and low in sodium, such as potatoes, may reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

Ms Indra also shared that although many people these days are worried about their carbohydrate intake, carbohydrates are one of the key nutrients in performance nutrition.  Athletes engaged in high volume and high intensity training require adequate amounts of carbohydrates for energy.  U.S. potatoes are an example of an excellent source of carbohydrates. They are rich in vitamin B6 and C, potassium, folate, fibre and antioxidants. “They are extremely versatile and filling, making it a convenient source for athletes” she elaborated. 

Organizer Potatoes USA is the marketing organization for the 2,500 commercial potato growers operating in the United States. They promote five main good quality potato products: fresh table-stock potatoes, fresh chipping potatoes, seed potatoes, frozen potato products and dehydrated potato products.

The night ended with a lucky draw with prizes sponsored by Shangri-La Tanjung Aru followed by a meet & greet session with Chef Emmanuel Stroobant.

JELAJAH SASSH : HARI AIDS SEDUNIA 2019 |Kota Kinabalu, 6 November 2019 - Sabah Aids Services and Humanitarian (SASSH) telah mengadakan satu sidang media yang telah berlansung di The Body Shop, Suria Sabah yang dihadiri oleh Muhammad Yazid Bin MatDaud, Pengerusi Persatuan SASSH dan Gary Siaw, Pengurus The Body Shop Sabah.


Program Jelajah SASSH semperna Hari Aids Sedunia 2019 akan dianjurkan oleh Sabah Aids Support Services and Humanitarian (SASSH) serta mendapat kerjasama penuh daripada The Body Shop Malaysia, mendapat tajaan lokasi daripada 1 Borneo Hypermall, Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, Imago Shopping Centre, Centre Point Sabah dan City Mall Sabah. Manakala Jurugambar rasmi dari Aznan Johari.

The Body Shop Malaysia sangat komited dan bersungguh-sungguh membantu untuk menjayakan program Jelalah SASSH : Hari Aids Sedunia 2019 ini dengan mendapatkan lokasi jelajah dan memberi khidmat nasihat untuk menjayakan program kali ini. The Body Shop Malaysia akan meberikan tenaga kerja untuk mempromosikan barangan jualan amal sepanjang jelalah. “Kami berkempen dengan penuh semangat berkaitan dengan isu-isu yang dekat dengan hati kami kerana aktivesme ada dalam darah kami ” kata Gary Siaw, Pengurus The Body Shop Sabah.

Program jelajah ini dilakukan sebagai medium kepada masyarakat Sabah khususnya di Kota Kinabalu untuk di perkenalkan NGO SASSH dan juga mendapatkan informasi mengenai HIV dan STD. Program ini juga bertujuan untuk mengutip sumbangan orang ramai untuk menjayakan program SASSH di masa akan datang.

Bukan itu sahaja, acara kemuncak Mini Konsert Amal : Hari Aids Sedunia 2019 akan di adakan pada bulan Disember 2019.“Saya berharap program ini mampu memberikan nilai tambah dan membantu pihak KKM meyampaikan maklumat tentang HIV dan STD kepada masyarakat setempat.” Kata Muhammad Yazid Bin MatDaud, Pengerusi SASSH.

Travel Berdua Lebih Baik

Setiap orang punya pengalaman travel yang berbeza dan tak boleh nafikan setiap pengalaman tu amat berguna untuk kita ambil dan cuba untuk praktikkan. Sebab daripada pengalaman orang, kita boleh jadikan panduan untuk kita pula. Dan setiap orang banyak ragamnya juga. Ada antara kita yang lebih selesa travel sorang-sorang sebab lebih mudah tak perlu nak fikirkan pasal orang lain. Kita boleh planning semua ikut yang kita suka tanpa memikirkan apa pula pandangan orang lain. 




Selain itu ada juga orang yang suka travel dalam kumpulan. Bestnya travel in group ni sebenarnya ia lebih menjimatkan sebab banyak benda yang kita boleh sharing. Sebagai contoh kalau travel berempat, duit transport kita boleh divide 4, duit makan pun sama dan banyak lah lagi. Namun, masalahnya travel ramai-ramai ni, banyak ragam yang nak kena fikir dan juga banyak pendapat yang kena dipertimbangkan. Jadi apa kata kita cuba travel berdua pula lepas ni.




Untuk kita yang nak travel berdua, benda yang paling penting adalah pilihlah kawan ataupun pasangan yang betul-betul kita selesa. Hal ini bagi memastikan percutian kita nanti tu tidaklah terlalu complicated. Aku tak nafikan kalau kita silap pilih kawan, memang akan susahlah nanti nak buat keputusan sebab kita taka da kata putus yang ketiga untuk backup. Tak tahu pendapat siapa yang lebih sesuai digunakan nanti. So, jangan silap pilih kawan tau. Aku nak share lah sikit beberapa perkara yang menjadikan travel berdua ni lebih baik daripada travel solo ataupun berkumpulan kalau kita dapat pilih partner yang baik.

Jimat Transport
Transport ni aku refer daripada A to Z, iaitu transport daripada nak ke airport sampailah transport kita nak gunakan dekat tempat yang kita pergi tu juga. Kalau travel berdua ni, aku lebih prefer untuk gunakan public transport yang ada sebab lagi jimat. Pertamanya, kalau nak airport transfer, aku lebih prefer guna KLIA Express dan aku akan beli KLIA Ekspres Tickets ni guna Traveloka. Sebabnya kalau beli dekat Traveloka ni, kita boleh jimat dalam lebih kurang RM12 seorang daripada kita beli dekat kaunter. KLIA Express ni sebenarnya sangat selesa untuk kita even kita bawa luggage sekalipun. Namun, kalau korang tak suka nak angkut luggage, boleh lah try Airport Limo atau mana-mana transport yang lain. Selain itu, aku memang akan suka cari tempat yang ada akses bas ataupun train sebab suka untuk rasa pengalaman naik bas dan train di tempat orang pula. Nak cuba compare kan dengan Malaysia pula.

Jimat Luggage 
Kalau lelaki ni, senang sebab ramai yang suka backpack je. Tetapi perempuan ni banyak sangat barang yang nak bawa, tu yang rasa perlu untuk beli luggage. Kalau naik airline yang kena add-on luggage, sebenarnya kita boleh je buat sorang je beli luggage tu. So, lagi jimat nanti divide je 2 harga. Tak perlulah kalau travel berdua ni, dua-dua nak beli sebab nanti mesti berlebih punya. Aku yakin beg sorang takdelah sampai lebih 20kg. Kalau tak yakin nak amik 20kg, beli yang 25kg atau 30kg pun tetap lagi jimat untuk sorang je beli.

Penginapan
Aku paling suka travel berdua ni, senang sangat nak handle penginapan. Kita boleh je cari mana-mana hotel yang rasa selesa tetapi harga masih berbaloi untuk kita duduk nanti. Kalau travel ramai ni leceh, sebab kita kalau boleh mesti nak duduk sekali dengan kawan-kawan kita, so pilihan jimat yang ada adalah hostel. Aku kurang suka hostel ni, cuma satu je sebab toilet dia kena sharing dengan orang lain. Kalau berdua mungkin kos akan mahal sikit tetapi kita akan dapat keselesaan yang kita nak lah.




Ni antara benda yang aku rasa travel berdua lebih best dan memudahkan. Kosnya tidaklah terlalu jimat macam travel dalam group tetapi ia tidaklah juga terlalu mahal sebab ada benda yang kita still boleh share dengan partner kita.

Marking the beginning of the festive season, Hyatt Regency Kinabalu hosted the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony held in the Lobby Lounge. Hyatt Regency Kinabalu unveiled its Christmas theme for this year, “Invoke your Christmas Childhood Memories at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu” – to commemorate the yesteryear Christmases celebrated at our hotel for the past 40 years.

Hyatt Regency Kinabalu’s associates, restaurant diners, in-house guests and media friends were in attendance to witness the Christmas tree lighting ceremony. The ceremony began with a lovely speech by the hotel’s General Manager, Thor Gervasi, followed by the official lighting of the Christmas tree, a well-loved tradition.

The hotel lobby was transformed into a wonderland with a 12-foot Christmas tree featuring plants such as poinsettia, lemon cypress and snow-white pine tree arranged around the tree accompanied by spectacular fairy lights and a star.

The hotel also showcased a gingerbread house at The Lounge, snowman and Christmas tree made out from recycled tires at car porch area and the hotel lobby, and various green and red-themed decorations to exhibit the spirit of the festive season.

We will also introduce ‘Adopt-a-Tree’ programme where our guests can adopt through donations and we will plant the trees in selected forest of our choice. Following three past successful launchings and collaborations with Celebrity Chefs, this festive season, Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu is bringing in "Have A Sweet Christmas" by Melbourne's Celebrity Home Baker Raymond Tan. The launching, officiated by the Guest of Honour - Datin Rachel Anthony Shim, was witnessed by the media and industry bloggers and showcased Raymond Tan's, also known as Ray Ray, creative Cake-Popsicles with short demonstration at Promenade Café, Promenade Hotel Kota Kinabalu.


Raymond specialises in celebration cakes and desserts, experiential dessert designs and has travelled to Paris, Singapore, Taipei, Bangkok, Jakarta and Seoul for demonstrations, workshops, and collaborative work. Pan Borneo Hotel Kota Kinabalu successfully held its Christmas lighting ceremony on Tuesday, 10 December 2019. Nearly 100 people comprising of invited business partners and clients, in-house guests and media friends were in attendance.

At 7pm, the lighting ceremony was held in the hotel swimming pool area at level 3M. The event was officiated by Member of Parliament, YB Tuan Awang Husaini Bin Sahari, accompanied by the hotel general manager, Liew Kui Fah to light up the Christmas house and trees around the hotel to mark the exciting festive celebration at Pan Borneo Hotel Kota Kinabalu.



All guests were treated with hot and chilled beverages, Christmas cookies and cakes, festive treats –
delicious traditional roasted whole turkey with stuffing, Scandinavian style baked meatloaf, roasted marinated lamb, smoked duck salad, meat pates and much more that has surely made everyone feel merry during the event.

The event was entertained by the melodious sound from the choir group performances by the Sacred Heart Cathedral Kota Kinabalu Choir and friends performing classic festive songs, a 2-piece D’sound Band and a surprise visit by Santa and Santarina distributing Christmas goodies to all the guests.

HYATT REGENCY KINABALU RECORD BREAKING ATTEMPT FOR WORLD'S LONGEST YULE LOG CAKE

KOTA KINABALU (11 DECEMBER 2019) – In a fundraising effort to support the Ara Dinawan Island Coral Reef Conservation Programme, the Hyatt Regency Kinabalu team crafted a 1270.55-metre-long Yule log cake.

Executive Sous Chef Adrian Chong led the project, together with Head of Pastry Chef, Ismail Saidan, assisted by his team of pastry chefs and 20 culinary pastry students from Asian Tourism International College of Kota Kinabalu.

The team worked for five days to complete the project– from the production of the first sponge cake batter, chocolate filling and ganache frosting, rolling of the sponge cakes to the required shapes and setting them up on the tables, to finally applying the resulting Yule log cake’s Christmas-themed decoration.

The 1270.55-metre-long Yule log cake was assembled using ingredients that included 700 kilograms (kg) of sponge mix chocolate, 150 kg of eggs, 170 litres of cooking oil, 125 kg of butter, 350 kg of dark chocolates, 350 litres of whipping cream, 50 kg sugar, 5 kg of cocoa powder and 30 kg of snow icing sugar giving its overall weight of 1930kg.

Hyatt's Longest Yule Log at 1270.55 metres

In line with our Hygiene and Food Safety regulations the hotel has gone through strict guidelines to ensure that the Yule logs are prepared in a sanitized environment following Food Safety and HACCP regulations.

Public were invited to Kimanis Ballroom at Hyatt Regency Kinabalu at 4:00 PM to witness and have a photo session with the longest Yule log cake in the world. Director of Food and Beverage Daryl Thong gave a description of the yule log to all visitors and about the project journey.

“I am absolutely delighted that we are able to end the year with this historic achievement. Our team has worked day and night to ensure we break the current world record for the longest Yule log. I encourage the public to support us for the good cause as these Yule logs are available for purchase and proceeds from this initiative will help to fund our charity programme”, said Daryl Thong.

After the event, the majority of the cake was put up for sale to the public for MYR 10 per 10 centimetres. Some of the proceeds will be donated to the Coral Reef Conservation programme at Ara Dinawan Island.
